Chantal - Season 2

Police inspector Chantal ends up in a remote corner of West Flanders, where she is not exactly well received. Yet she manages to hold her own and slowly but surely wins the hearts of friends and foes.

After the first season of the Flemish police series Chantal, which featured the same character as in Eigen Kweek, it became clear that this spin-off is very far removed from the series in which the policewoman played for three seasons.

It is now certain that Maaike Cafmeyer will continue as Chantal for another season because production on the third season has started. However, as viewers we have only just finished the second season and this series continues on the momentum built up in the first season.

In terms of content, Chantal is still dealing with the after-effects of the end of season one. The reports of the well-ended hostage situation that ended the season contain some contradictions, resulting in a suspension hanging over Chantal's head. She is then suspended, but of course she cannot really sit still and helps her corps left and right with research tasks. This is how she ends up with a demented antique dealer who tells her all kinds of mysterious things about shady dealings in his sector.

In addition, Johnny D'Haese (Mathias Sercu, My Worst Best Friend), her colleague/boyfriend, (sometimes) with benefits, has problems with his girlfriend who has left and is now involved with a shady figure. In the meantime, the corps is also reinforced with an intern (Patricia Kargbo, Match) and a retired former colleague from the corps (Peter Bulckaen, Family) appears. And just like with us later this year, municipal elections are also approaching, for which local patron Schiettekatte (Wim Opbrouck, De Ronde) has now also put himself forward as a candidate.

Sercu has succeeded in writing a strong screenplay for this second season of Chantal, which means that the series is gradually working its way up to be included in the series of strong Flemish police series such as Witse, Aspe, Flikken and many others. The scenario is exciting, contains the necessary humor and has enough twists so that the viewer does not immediately see who the perpetrator(s) of the crimes committed are.

Chantal can continue for a few more seasons. As long as Sercu manages to write strong scenarios and the main protagonists remain in office, little can go wrong.
