NBC orders pilot for Suits spinoff Suits: L.A.

An expansion of the Suits universe is now closer than ever. NBC has ordered a pilot for Suits: L.A.

NBC has given a pilot order to Suits: L.A. from Aaron Korsh, the creator and writer of the original series, from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. Production will begin in Vancouver at the end of March. Victoria Mahoney (The Morning Show) will direct and produce the pilot.

14752 Suits: L.A.

Suits: L.A. would not be a reboot or revival, but more of a new chapter in the vein of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and NCIS franchises with new characters in a new location.

According to the project's storyline, Suits: L.A. centers on Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who has reinvented himself as a representative of the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His company is at a crisis point and to survive he must embrace a role he has despised his entire career.

Ted is surrounded by an amazing group of characters who test their loyalty to him and each other while they can't help but have their personal and professional lives intertwine. All this happens as events from years ago slowly unravel, forcing Ted to leave everything and everyone he loved behind.

Korsh is producing alongside David Bartis, Doug Liman and Gene Klein, who served as executive producers on the original series.

Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Gina Torres, Sarah Rafferty, Meghan Markle and Rick Hoffman all starred in Suits during the end of USA Network's (part of NBCUniversal) popular Blue Sky era. According to the script, none of the original actors will appear in the pilot, although Adams has expressed interest in reprising the role of Mike Ross. Should the L.A. pilot get a series order, there may be more interest from the original cast in visiting the Golden State.

The renewed interest in the franchise comes on the heels of Netflix's streaming of the series in mid-2023. The series recently broke records by becoming the "most-watched streaming original in the US," beating Apple's Ted Lasso.

This is the second offshoot of the Suits universe, which also includes the spin-off Pearson, which aired on USA in 2019 before being canceled after one season. Pearson is currently available to stream on Peacock.
