Sweet Tooth - Season 3
The end of Sweet Tooth.
The final season of Sweet Tooth is solid but not as strong as its predecessors. This third season does provide a nicely rounded story. That is not always the case in serial land. The story builds on the storylines of the first two seasons. As far as I'm concerned, the biggest difference is that Gus is becoming increasingly central. Adults stepping back to let Gus make an adult decision. Strangely enough, this stands out to me more than the other two seasons. Could be just me, but this time it bothered me more.
Furthermore, Sweet Tooth the series remains a much sweeter and more pleasant version of the dark comic. This time, the opponents following Gus are even more aggressive than in the first two seasons. The greatest danger comes from canine hybrids and their mother. The latter is put under pressure by her own family. It turns out to be a complex family relationship. A lot of attention is paid to this story in the eight episodes of this season. It makes Sweet Tooth not so one-dimensional. There are several points of view that deserve attention.
Gus and his three companions are on their way to his mother. She has been looking for the cure for the pandemic for some time. However, she is no longer safe in the cold ice plains where she finds herself. Even the help of Siana (Cara Gee, The Expanse) and young Nuka is no longer enough. Partly for this reason, Gus's mother decides to look for him. However, that was not done easily. Gus and his friends also experience a lot along the way. The journey is not without dangers. Hope and despair alternate. Even the greatest of all doubts regularly. When the doctor from the past also makes an appearance, the picture is complete. The big question is how this will all end.
It must be said that a spectacular ending is in prospect. The tension increases in the final episodes. However, the slightly humorous undertone remains present. It never gets too scary or too hard. Not that Sweet Tooth is necessarily a family series. The little ones among us will find it far too scary and will not understand the underlying story. The tone of the series is reflected in the final ending. Those who follow this series will probably understand what I mean. I don't want to give away more to avoid spoilers.
What remains are the beautifully shot images. The often fantastic backgrounds provide extra color. Although this time part of the story takes place in icy cold and white plains. The hybrids are fantastically designed. It feels real. Sweet Tooth has been great entertainment for three seasons with an adult but also youthful character. For young and old. As long as you are not too young, it is just too scary and exciting for that. Perfect series to escape the daily grind.
